Antique George II 1743 Sterling Silver Handled Cup
This is a very nice christening size George II sterling silver mug made in London in 1743. The mug, with indistinct maker's marks, measures 3 5/8 inches high to the top of the handle and is 2 1/2 inches in diameter. The mug weighs 137 grams 4.4 toz. The front of the cup is engraved "Judy Wiley / Birthday June 13, 1948 / Porterfield Pool". The handle has an older engraving "WH". The sterling mark, London mark, and date mark (1743) are clear, the maker's mark is indistinct. The bottom of the cup has been soldered at one time and the bottom end of the handle is missing, otherwise, it is in very good antique condition.
