Imposing French antique solid silver footed "timbale" or wine cup, 19th century. The tulip-shaped cup closely resembles 18th century models with its elaborate engraved design, sitting atop a decorative gadrooned pedestal. We find the French minerva 1 hallmark to the cup, indicating a fineness of 950/1000 parts silver (higher than sterling).The maker's mark is that of Jean Jarre, registered in 1885. Condition is very good to excellent with normal micro scratching/ light wear to the surface. There are no dents or dings to this elegant, sparkling cup that has been well cared-for over the years. Measures 11.8 cms tall (4.6 inches) x 9 cms diameter (3.5 inches). Weighs an impressive 145 grams.
