This is a beautiful antique sterling silver presentation mug or baby cup, dating from c. The 1860s, made by Wood & Hughes.
The mug is decorated by hand with repoussé flowers flanking a cartouche in which is engraved with the name Eugene Yelverton. It has decorative beading at the rim and reeding at the base. The bottom is marked with the Wood and Hughes maker's mark, Sterling, and 72. The workmanship is of high standard, as expected from what was one of New York City's premier silver manufacturers in the mid-to-late 19th century.
The cup measures approximately 2 3/4 inches tall and 2 3/8 inches in diameter (not including the handle), and weighs approximately 67.2 grams. There are some light scratches and dents, as expected for a sterling cup of this age, but overall it is in very good antique condition. The cup retains its original, warm patina; I will leave any cleaning or polishing to the next owner. A very sweet little cup!
