Just out of a local smoke free house is this antique sterling silver tennis trophy. It was for the 1913 Philadelphia - New York Inter City Racquet Doubles.

The trophy is engraved Inter-city Racquet Doubles 1913 Philadelphia - New York Won by George H. Brooke and Wilson Potter It has an enameled emblem of the Racquet Club of Philadelphia dated 1888. The trophy measures about 7 1/4 inches tall and about 5 7/8 inches at its widest.

It is marked on the underside J. It is in good condition. It has an allover tarnished surface aquired over the years and can be displayed as is or have it professionally polished. See photos as they are part of the description. The trophy's winners were George H. George Brooke was also a renowned football player.

He played college football at Swarthmore and the University of Pennsylvania. He was all American in 1894 and again in 1895. He also had a successful coaching career. Wilson Potter was a football star at the University of Pennsylvania and was also a well known racquets and tennis court player. Wilson Potter and was a big game hunter.

He obtained prize big game heads for the Smithsonian Institution. His mother was notably a surviving passenger who was on the Titanic.
